Mattias Johansson gave Fabian Grassini little room on the scoreboard Sunday, taking their senior pro singles meeting 11–2, 11–4 at the NP California Open Classic Powered by Onix.
The opening game set a demanding challenge for Grassini. An 11–2 result put Johansson one game away from victory and left his opponent needing a turnaround to extend the contest.
Grassini improved his return in the second game, doubling his opening-game point total. But four points still left him well short of the eleven he needed, and Johansson closed out a straight-games win. The margins — nine points in the opener, seven in the second — tell the story of a decisive result rather than a narrow escape.
For Grassini, the second game offered an improvement on the first, but it was not enough to change the outcome. Johansson finished both games with a comfortable cushion, preventing the match from reaching a deciding third game.
The September 20 result, recorded by DUPR in the event’s Sunday senior pro men’s singles competition, gives Johansson a convincing win to his name. Two games, two clear margins: on this scorecard, there was little ambiguity about who came out on top.
